Today we launch the outline of the workshop on: Trait-based analyses in groundwater ecology and bioassessment
Trait based analyses are being increasingly used across biology and ecology yet this approach has not been applied in subsurface ecosystems, partly because of the current lack of a consolidated database on the attributes of subterranean fauna, and partly because the convergent morphologies of many subterranean fauna complicate the identification of meaningful traits across. This workshop will explore the potential for trait-based analysis in subterranean ecology. Outcomes of the workshop will be the identification of suitable indicators on which to base an initial trait database for subterranean fauna, and a group publication(s) on the potentials for and limitations to trait based analyses in subterranean systems.
